Dear Friends,

As I have heard in Italy new laws are implemented about the way one should keep Birds of Prey (no more blocks and leashes but in a closed voliere) and also that it is forbiddeen to work profesionaly - Falconry Displays, demonstration on fairs etc.

Is this correct and if so could anyone give me some more information as it could be a European virus as other countries may copy this.

Hi Rob, your information fortunately is incorrect. Just in some regions (Emilia romagna for example) there is a law to regulate the private captive management of some species; this law permits to falconers (and only to them!) to keep raptors in blocks with leashes; all the others can keep raptors only in voliere and only with particular dimensions fixed by the law.
No laws about falconry shows, just some laws that regulate the transport and safety of animals (inclused birds of prey). However the italian law was created "copying" the Austrian and Dutch laws.
