MATERIALS
NEEDED
All of the medical equipment can easily be found
on the counter, unless otherwise indicated. Must have at least two volunteers to perform this
procedure
- One to restrain the bird
- One to administer the treatment
- One raptor in need of bumblefoot treatment
- Gloves for handling the raptor (welding
gloves)
- Castwrap (found in the draw under the scales for
weighing birds) or large towel
- Ace bandage
- Small towel for absorbing fluids
- Betadine soaked gauze pads (in glass jar on
window sill)
- Dilute Nolvasan (have a syringe or spray bottle
filled)
- Clean, dry gauze pads (in glass jar on window
sill)
- CEH cream
- Rolled gauze
- Bandage scissors (in drawer under medical
counter)
- VetWrap (may be in drawer, if not on
counter)
- Surgical tape
Helpful Tips!
- Lay out all materials needed on counter within
your reach, but out of the way of where the bird will be laid.
- Cut the tape into strips on manageable length
and stick to counter within easy reach.
- Remove some CEH cream from jar with a tongue
depressor, never your fingers, and put on a gauze pad, ready for use.
- Never put your finger directly in the CEH
cream.
- You could infect the whole jar with whatever
bacteria may be on your fingers.
